I'll try to be brief. My 5-year-old ASUS laptop is biting the dust. Can't get past the Windows splash screen, can't get to any form of Safe Mode (hangs indefinitely at CLASSPNP.SYS), none of the options in the System Recovery Menu (F8) work. My computer is old enough and busted enough that the DVD drive doesn't read anything, so even my Windows Recovery disc will be worthless here. I'm ready to format. Bought a USB flash drive for the occasion. Can't find the old Digital River, legal ISOs that Microsoft endorsed because they've been taken down. I also can't use Microsoft's new in-house option () because it won't allow users who have a factory OEM copy of Windows download the ISOs for whatever goddamn reason. I'd love to jump on the bandwagon and grab a free upgrade to Windows 10, but unfortunately since I can't start my computer, I can't do that either.
